One of the areas that are seeing activity and which IDC believes will continue to become even more important is the mobile enterprise area. Understanding the value of implementing wireless solutions in enterprises is widespread and this is the basis for actual implementation in the near future. Currently there is much activity in the financial sector as well as in the healthcare sector, but there could be many more actual implementations. This report contains information on current and projected future use of mobile Internet and data services in medium and large European corporate environments. It is based on a survey of 528 companies located in eight European countries: France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The companies surveyed had a minimum of 100 employees. The respondents who participated in this study were directly involved in planning and selecting cellular phones and services for their companies, and the planning or management of mobile Internet services. This is the fourth year that this study has been conducted. This report attempts to show the real trends that are occurring within some of the key corporate clients of the European mobile operators, in terms of the usage of mobile data services. It makes a number of conclusions based on the survey results and looks beyond some of the initial perceptions to attempt to understand what the corporate mobile customer is really saying.
